I see the “hot mess” (or general mom guilt) narrative as mothers who ignore their intuition and their maternal instincts and instead outsource their decisions to a system of obligation from extended family members or societal “norms” (school, church, medicine etc.) which becomes a conflict between heart and head. When they follow something outside of themselves (their inner knowing), it escalates and piles on top of the previous thing leaving moms completely defeated and confused. I used to be one of them.
Thank you for this eloquent piece! I agree completely. ❤️
Woah you worded that so perfectly and so beautifully! Thank you so much for sharing and as a mama who I feel like I truly haven’t been on that side of the fence in my mothering it’s so so potent hearing from mothers who have and who changed the narrative for themselves whilst they were truly “in” it. I’m sure your words and comment will resonate with many and show others you can create something different ❤️
I so resonate with your lens, and have made a similar commitment to myself / my child. Thank you for your commitment to show another side of the narrative. 🌹
Beautiful and thoughtful post, Natalie. Yes, I see so many mothers/fathers running their children everywhere to all the activities they signed them up for. It is sad to me, that these children don’t have down time to just be in a gentle, slow way of living. They say their children love these sports/activities but perhaps it’s more of the parents who love this hustle and then to sit and discuss it with other parents at these events perhaps feeling accomplished that they have this so wrapped up and organized. I certainly didn’t grow up that way, nor did my adult children.
